Dumped dog still in search of loving home, says Durban SPCA

The Durban and Coast SPCA said despite interest, Lucy is still searching for her forever home since her rescue.

DESPITE interest, Lucy the dog, dumped in a drain in uMlazi in July last year, is still looking for her forever home.

Durban and Coast SPCA marketing manager Tanya Fleischer said the affectionate pooch had been booked several times by people, only for them to pull out of the adoption process later on.

“Lucy was little more than a pup when she was rescued and brought in to us. She was very nervous and painfully thin. We’ve spent the last few months talking to her with soothing words and gentle hands. We have given her a special diet, and she has regained her health and confidence and is incredibly affectionate,” Fleischer said.

Fleischer said Lucy was deliberately thrown down a drain and left to die.

“What we suspect is that someone deliberately threw her down a drain. Unfortunately, in this case, we don’t know who it was, and there are no witnesses. All we know is that, not far from where Lucy was found, another dog was found hanged. And it seems the two cases are linked,” she said.
