Break-in suspects nabbed in Effingham Heights

There were two incidents that occurred in Effingham Heights on Sunday.

A MAN was arrested on Desai Crescent in Effingham Heights at approximately 16:00 on Sunday after he was seen acting suspiciously and crouching in the bushes behind a property.

Swift Private Security responded after receiving reports from the community.

“Armed response officers promptly responded to the scene and conducted a thorough search of the area. Officers quickly located the suspect attempting to flee from the bushes and promptly apprehended him,” said Swift Private Security spokesperson Sanveer Sooklall.

The man was found in possession of cut pieces of palisade fencing that were taken from a nearby business property.

“Greenwood Park SAPS were informed about the incident, however, no case was filed by the complainant. Regardless of the size or severity of the crime, Swift Private Security encourages residents to report it to SAPS,” said Sooklall.

In a separate incident earlier that day, Swift Private Security responded to a break-in on Jain Road, also in Effingham Heights, where an unknown individual gained entry into a property that was unoccupied at the time.

“The suspect had already fled before our arrival. A neighbour had confronted them, and they quickly absconded,” said Sooklall.

He said, according to the resident, the suspect may have escaped into the nearby informal settlements and remained untraceable.

“Our officers, however, still managed to recover a TV from the premises. Officers then waited for the homeowner’s arrival and handed him back his television.

The owner said he would do a proper check of his belongings and register a case with the SAPS,” added Sooklall.
