Golden Hours Market to bring festive cheer

The annual Carols by Candlelight event is a highlight for the North Durban community.

THIS year, the Golden Hours Family Market celebrated its 24th birthday.

The vision behind the market was always to raise funds for Golden Hours School, support local traders and create a safe environment for the community to enjoy and shop.

Lyn Wilson, who worked at the school for three decades, now manages the market and has invited the north Durban community and surrounds for their Carols by Candlelight markets on Thursday, December 14 and Friday, December 15.

“Our annual Carols by Candlelight event is always well supported. There’s plenty of festive fun for the whole family. The night markets feature local vendors and traders, and of course, the carols just bring everyone together. There is also a snow machine, an appearance by Santa Claus and tractor rides for the children,” she said.

Wilson said that the entrance to the market is free and the carols start at 19:00 on both evenings.

“We really hope the community comes out to support us this year. There will also be a raffle on the evening for prizes, and of course, at the heart of why we do this is to raise funds for Golden Hours School. It’s the oldest market in Durban North and has been supporting the school since its inception. This market has a heart of its own with something for everybody,” she said.

The Carols by Candlelights run from 18:00 to 21:00 on Thursday, December 14 and from 17:00 to 21:00 on Friday, December 15.
