SPCA appeals for help with food donations as stocks run low
The SPCA feeds more than 250 dogs and 60 cats on a daily basis.
THE Durban & Coast SPCA has asked the north Durban community to assist with donations as their dog and cat food stocks are running dangerously low.
Marketing manager of the association Tanya Fleischer said the SPCA feeds more than 250 dogs and 60 cats on a daily basis.
“Unfortunately, food stocks are at an all-time low. In fact, in 2023, we received the lowest amount of donated food received in the past six years. We are appealing to the community to make a donation of food if they can. We know we keep asking, but this is a need we always have, and we encourage those who can to help feed our animals. We use more than R6 000 worth of food per day. While any donations are welcome, we do have preferred brands that are good for dogs,” Fleischer explained.

Fleischer added that December also saw more than 1 300 animals handed over to the SPCA over December.
“We’ve had an influx of unwanted dogs, more than [the general] stray dogs, over the Christmas period,” she said.
She added that those willing to assist can contact the association’s marketing office on 031 579 6534 or email info@spcadbn.org.za.
“People are also welcome to make a donation on our website: www.spcadbn.org.za,” she said.
