Durban North student hopes to inspire youth through new book

A DURBAN North writer has published her first book, 30 Songs Wiser, which was written when she, herself, was in a place of unknowing.
Denata Naidoo, who is a fifth-year medical student, said her book is centred on the wisdom, knowledge and life lessons a person can acquire from difficulty and uncertainty.

“Writing this book provided a cathartic release. It delivers advice and guidance to the youth to become the best version of themselves and defy conformity. Initially, I did not anticipate that I would publish but I realised that these pages would be useful and extremely valuable to those who resonate with these ideologies and those encountering similar thoughts and feelings. Thus it came from a place of being willing to inspire and uplift those around me,” said Naidoo.
“Writing spanned over 10 months as I did not write consecutively. There were periods with no writing and months densely saturated. I believe that writing takes time, not just in the quantitative sense but pertaining to having quality time and experiences to impart when writing,” she added.
“Lessons encompassing being authentic and true to your needs and wants instead of following in the footsteps of others are included. Additionally, establishing healthy habits, putting yourself first and having boundaries for relationships and friendships are elucidated. Subsequently, learning to be mindful and take risks are fundamental components of this book.
“I enjoyed creating an art that is personal and authentic and actualising it into something tangible,” said Naidoo.
30 Songs Wiser was recently launched on Amazon Kindle but hard copies can be made available, too, if you’d prefer.
