VIDEO: Community rallies to save puppy trapped in pipe in Greenwood Park

The young puppy was thankfully unharmed in the incident which highlighted the community spirit.

MEMBERS of the eThekwini Fire Department, Marshall Security, the Specialised Tactical Accident Rescue (Start Rescue) team and the Glen An-Hills Neighbourhood Watch helped rescue a two-week-old puppy trapped in a drain pipe in Greenwood Park on Saturday (March 30).

Various role-players responded to the incident on Ben Nevis Road just after 06:00.

“The puppy had accidentally fallen into a stormwater pipe and was unable to escape,” explained Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell. “It became clear that the expertise of the eThekwini Fire Department was needed. The team, faced with the challenge of reaching the young puppy, securely lodged within the PVC drain pipe, decided to meticulously cut the pipe from below. This allowed the rescuers to carefully retrieve the puppy, ensuring its safety.”

Powell added that the young pup, though exhausted, was unharmed and in good health.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in this rescue. This incident brought a heartwarming conclusion to an anxious situation over the Easter Weekend, showcasing the power of community and teamwork in times of need,” he said.
