Armed response officer recovering after shooting in Prestondale

The officer was shot in the leg in the incident on Woodlands Close.

MARSHALL Security spokesperson Tyron Powell has confirmed that their armed response officer who was shot by a suspect on Friday last week (May 17) is on the road to recovery.

The officer was responding to an alarm activation at a client’s premises on Woodlands Close in the Prestondale area when he was shot and injured at about 01:00.

“Our officer, who arrived first on scene, encountered intruders on site and an armed suspect recklessly opened fire towards him, hitting him in the leg. Our officer returned fire, took cover and called for backup.

“Additional response teams were dispatched to assist, and they arrived to find our injured officer conscious but injured, with a gunshot wound to his left leg. Despite a thorough search of the area by the backup teams, the suspects, unfortunately, evaded arrest. It was determined that the suspects had initially gained access to the property by cutting the barbed wire and forcing their way through a concrete palisade fence bordering the N2 freeway and used the same route to escape,” he said.

According to Powell, a case of attempted murder has been opened at the Durban North Police Station.

“He is recovering and is in a stable condition. He should be discharged from hospital this week. This is not the first time suspects have accessed this premises – that it has been targeted,” confirmed Powell.
