uMhlanga bowls competition on a roll

The competition is also one of the biggest prize-money lawn bowling tournaments in the country for ladies.

THE third annual Umhlanga Bowling Club Ladies Classic was a massive success.

That’s according to event organiser and Umhlanga Bowling Club member, Ina Beavon

The event, which took place at the took place at the Umhlanga Country Club, attracted 112 players from clubs all over the country.

The competition is also one of the biggest prize-money lawn bowling tournaments in the country for ladies.

“This tournament was one of my ideas to promote ladies bowls. Traditionally there are a lot of men’s competitions and we wanted to have a ladies only competition. We’ve grown in participation since inception and this year we had the most number of teams with 28. The tournament was a massive success and we are already looking forward to next year. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the sponsors and hard working helpers who make it such a success,” she said.

Beavon added the competitors were treated to an exceptionally high standard of competition and the winners overall were Mixups from Toti Bowling Club, Susan Nel, Doreen Salmond, Linda Didlick and Niki Stirzaker.

The plate section was won by the Hillcrest Bowling Club Firebells Michelle Gerber, Linda van Niekerk, Brenda van Niekerk and Jaylene Fagan.
