Feel the magic of Shakespeare in Durban

Get ready for the 14th Shakespeare Schools Festival South Africa (SSFSA) from September 23 to 26, and experience a week of theatrical magic at the Courtyard Theatre, Durban University of Technology.

With dynamic groups performing across five days, this year promises to shine a spotlight on emerging South African talent.

SSFSA, a hub of optimism post-pandemic, empowers youth, fostering confidence and life skills in a non-competitive, inclusive space. Be part of the celebration of voices inspiring hope and respecting all abilities.

The festival is ideal for young people seeking to explore their potential in a fun-filled, developmental way while simultaneously making their theatre debut on a professional stage in a non-competitive environment.

Participants range from first-time drama groups to fully fledged drama societies, from learners who have never acted before to learners who have been with the festival throughout their schooling career. SSFSA targets both primary and high schools, including youth art projects based in low-income communities and under-resourced areas.

Maris Stella will be performing The Merry Wives of Windsor; Mowat Park will take a swing at Romeo and Juliet; Durban Girls’ Secondary and Sastri College will perform Macbeth.

Rhumbelow Theatre presents Music Through The Ages

Music Through The Ages will keep your foot tapping and you singing to all the well-known songs.

Saints Music Academy’s touring band of students have learnt how to master their instruments and very often other instruments, too. They are exposed to numerous instruments.

The students do covers of all types of genres, from Elvis Presley, The Troggs, Gloria Gaynor, The Cranberries, Meghan Trainor, OutKast and Billie Eilish to name a few. They also perform some of their original songs. We encourage them to find their own style within the different genres.

They have visited various parts of the country, and Durban is their next stop.

Show dates:
Monday, September, 23 – 14:00 in Durban
Tuesday, September, 24 – 19:30 in Northlands

Tickets cost R160 and pensioners, students and scholars can pay R100.
