This annual fundraiser is a firm favourite for the students at AiA as well as the community as they have an opportunity to shop for arts and crafts; cookies and meals baked and cooked by the students; seedlings; fresh produce; and much more.
“The market is not only a fundraiser for the organisation but an event to spread knowledge and show acceptance of those living with disabilities. We invite the community to come and browse at the stalls and to support and see how devoted our hardworking students have been all year long,” said Nadia Bhayat, director for AiA.
“Action in Autism is invested in skills development. It’s amazing to see those skill sets merge to form a production team. This year, the students learnt to make their own rotis, so we’ll have delicious wraps on sale. We are famous for our crunchies and butter biscuits, but this year, our students learnt how to cook, too,” she added.
The event aims to create awareness of neurodiversity as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities approaches on December 3.
“It’s high time we all engage and include people with disabilities. We need to acknowledge them but, more so, accept them,” added Bhayat.
The market is open from 09:00 to 14.00. External vendors selling crafts, clothing, food or anything unique can book a spot by sending an email to info@actioninautism.org.za or calling 031 563 3039.
