Kenville or Sea Cow Lake learners in need of stationery packs

Schools, businesses, organisations and individuals can get involved in making the start to the academic year a smooth one for a primary or secondary school learner.

PREPPED for Prep and The Wellness Centre Trust are on a back-to-school mission again.

The partnership aims to assist 1 900 learners in the Sea Cow Lake and Kenville areas with all their essential supplies needed for the 2025 academic year.

The project titled ‘Preppi’s Bags Of Love’, has been running since 2020. Last year, 250 bags were donated to learners in need, but this year, Caron Rademeyer would like to see all 1 900 children get the start to the year that they so desperately need.

“We have been in touch with Kenville Primary and Sea Cow Lake Primary to find out what the needs of each learner are. We took all that information and worked on a cost of R200 per child for junior and senior primary learners. We want the academic year to be as stress-free as possible for the child so they can go out there with everything they need and do their best,” she said.

Helping children has always been a love of Rademeyer’s. She quotes Magic Johnson regularly who said all children need is a little help, a little hope and somebody who believes in them.

This year, Rademeyer has invited schools in Durban to join in, either through a donation or assisting with fundraising.

So far, Annie’s Buzy Bees and John Wesley Pre-Primary have agreed to assist with sponsorship.

“We want other schools to join, as well, and sponsor the bags. Whether they decide to sponsor a lump sum or host a fundraiser of some sort, it’s entirely up to them,” she added.

Another organisation that wants to ensure children are given a chance at obtaining a bright future is The Wellness Centre Trust which has come on board again to assist the Preppi’s Bags Of Love project.

Founder of the trust Eloise Briggeman said it takes a village to raise a child. She calls on the corporate and private sector to assist the children of Sea Cow Lake and Kenville.

“There are so many aspects involved when it comes to ensuring a child gets a good education. To help the children with the stationery they need to complete tasks and homework means they are one step closer to a brighter future. They need help. We would love to see an increase in the number of bags sponsored this year and to see the project grow,” she said.

You can sponsor towards these three bags: primary, senior or high school.

Any donation is welcome towards the project and does not have to amount to the entire R200.

Preppi’s Bag of Love Project will then accumulate the partial donations and supply bags to the value of what was sponsored.
