La Lucia family to light up the lives of animals in need
The Singhs are opening up their home to the public to come and view the festive lights, all in the name of animal welfare.
FAMILIES are on the hunt for the most beautifully lit up houses this festive season and while there are many in the north Durban areas, there’s only one that opens up their home to residents to support Pug Rescue South Africa.
Situated in Glendining Court, La Lucia, the Singh family are lovers of pugs, so naturally they want to do all they can to support the organisation by displaying the brightest Christmas lights outside and inside their home and inviting everyone to come and view.

Ravitha Singh told Northglen News that she and her family are volunteers of the NPO and have four pugs of their own. Their names are Pandora Puggy Sue; Pugsley TuPug, Pablo Escopug and Pugcasso Barker Singh.
“We became volunteers after adopting Pablo. When we fetched him from Johannesburg we learnt about all the pugs out there that need homes. We also learn about the abuse and trauma that some of these dogs go through so we decided to do our bit and get involved in trying to home more pugs,” she said.
Displaying lights around Christmas time, and for Diwali as well, is something the family has been doing for many years.
“It’s something that my husband Sunil started, but three years ago we decided to turn it into a fundraiser over the Christmas period and asked people to donate dog and cat food or cash to Pug Rescue SA,” she said.
“Displaying lights is something that my husband, Sunil, has been doing for a very long time. We also put up Diwali lights. Last year we decided to turn it into a fundraiser for Pug Rescue SA where we ask the community to donate food or cash,” she said.
This year is no different and the switch on takes place on December 14 from 18:30. Hot and cold beverages, cupcakes and snacks will be sold before the lights are switched on at 19:00.
The Singhs also support the Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment (PACT) so all cat and dog food will also be donated to this organisation.
“Bring along your family and support these two organisations who do such amazing work for the welfare of pugs, cats and dogs. The lights are really a gorgeous sight. You will definitely find the festive magic here,” she said.
“We are also looking for people to sponsor cakes and eats which we can sell to the public during the viewings. All cash proceeds go to Pug Rescue SA,” said Singh.
The property is opened from 19:00 to 21:30 for viewing. The last day to experience the lights is on December 29.
