Alleged pickpocket, copper pipe thief nabbed in Durban North
Two suspects, one an alleged pickpocket and the other an alleged copper pipe thief, were apprehended over the weekend.
A MAN suspiciously carrying a heavy, white plastic bag was reason for concern for Marshall Security armed response officers while patrolling in the Greenwood Park area yesterday (Sunday, February 2).

“The special operations team noticed a male carrying a heavy-looking white plastic bag at about 08:00 and immediately stopped to investigate. As he approached, the suspect dropped the bag and ran. A brief foot chase ensued, and the copper theft suspect was swiftly caught and apprehended,” said Marshall Security spokesperson, Tyron Powell.
After an inspection of the bag Marshall members discovered cut pieces of copper pipe inside and the suspect could not explain how he came into possession of them.
“Both the copper theft suspect and the recovered pipes were taken to Greenwood Park SAPS for further investigation and processing,” said Powell.
On February 1, also in the Greenwood Park area, two distressed civilians flagged down a Marshall Security officer and reported that a pickpocket suspect had just stolen a cellphone, ID, and bank card before fleeing on foot.
The officer saw the suspect getting into a taxi and without hesitation intercepted the vehicle and searched the man.
“The stolen items were still in his possession, and he was apprehended on the spot. The suspect was then handed over to Greenwood Park SAPS, where he will face charges of theft,” said Powell.
