Alleged cable thieves arrested on Kenville Road

A WhatsApp message on a community group tipped off law enforcement to a cable theft in progress.

TWO men have been arrested after being caught red-handed attempting to steal overhead electricity cables on Kenville Road.

The incident occurred on Monday  (February 10) at about 22:40.

According to Marshall Security spokesperson, Tyron Powell, the suspects attempted to flee on foot once they were spotted.

“We received a message via a WhatsApp Crime Alert group requesting security patrols on Kenville Road in the Sea Cow Lake area. The alert reported multiple cable theft suspects actively stealing cables from a light pole in front of Umgeni Heights Flats.

“When our officers arrived on scene, they  spotted four individuals fleeing. A pursuit ensued, resulting in the successful apprehension of two cable theft suspects. A ladder and a pair of pliers were recovered at the location,” he said.

Two other suspects were able to evade arrest.

The suspects were handed over to Greenwood Park police and were charged with damage to municipal infrastructure.
