SAPS encourages residents to attend community imbizo in uMhlanga

The imbizo is a community engagement and is a way for residents and various roleplayers to voice their concerns or address service delivery issues to the SAPS.

IN an effort to boost community engagement, the Durban North police station has moved its next crime imbizo to an evening time slot.

The next imbizo takes place on Wednesday, February 26 at 18:30 at St Michael’s Church in uMhlanga.

The station has hosted two community meetings before this, at the Durban North Methodist Church and then Umhlanga Ski-Boat Club, both of which were held during the day.

The imbizo is a community engagement and is a way for residents and various roleplayers to voice their concerns or address service delivery issues to the SAPS.

It also gives the SAPS a forum to discuss crime trends and patterns affecting the area.

The Durban North police station will be represented by Station Commander Colonel Jericho Nkomo, Visible Policing (Vispol) Commander Lieutenant Colonel Pam Nair and Captain Tracy Mey, commander of the Crime Information Management and Analysis Centre (CIMAC).

Spokesperson for the police station, Sergeant Nonhlanhla Shozi, said the meeting was open to everyone.

“These community engagements are focused on addressing crimes impacting the communities we serve. While this particular imbizo will focus on uMhlanga and the CBD, all residents within our policing precinct are welcome. We also have the support of Metro Police who’ve been in attendance at our last meeting,” Shozi said.
