Plane crashes in bushes near Virginia Airport
Two people on board the airplane were transported to hospital with their condition unknown at the time of publishing.
A SMALL airplane with two people on board crash-landed in the bushes near Virginia Airport on Tuesday morning, authorities said.
It is unclear if the pilot and passenger were injured or the severity of their injuries.
The scene was cordoned off by SAPS as authorities began investigations into the cause of the incident.
The crash comes days after a plane made an emergency landing near Beachwood beach, and months after a pilot was injured after a crash landing at Durban’s Beachwood Country Club.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson, said they responded to reports of a crash just after 09:30.
“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the eThekweni Fire Department in attendance and were shown to where a light aircraft was found in the trees. Paramedics were informed that the two occupants who were in the plane at the time of the crash had been transported privately for medical care before arrival of paramedics,” he said.
In a separate incident on Saturday, a light aircraft with an instructor pilot (28) and a trainee pilot (18) were forced to make an emergency landing on a beach in the vicinity of Virginia Airport.
The duo were on a training flight from Pietermaritzburg to Virginia Airport and experienced engine problems.
Various rescue services, including SAPS, Police Search and Rescue, National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Durban, eThekwini Fire and Rescue Services and authorities from Virginia Air Traffic Control (ATC), were among those who responded.

“Virginia ATC confirmed that the aircraft had landed on the beach in the vicinity of West of Virginia Beach and the pilot confirmed that there were no injuries,” said NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon. “The two pilots, shaken but in good spirits, were transported to Virginia Airport.”
