Two arrested in two days following Chris Hani Road business break-ins

Law enforcement urge businesses to report thefts to the police.

TWO suspects believed to be behind two separate break-ins on Chris Hani Road were detained this past week and handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS.

One of the suspects arrested on Thursday (June 19) was positively linked to a break-in earlier this month after CCTV footage of the man was circulated among private security officers.

“While patrolling our officers spotted the same suspect from the CCTV footage walking along Acutt Avenue. A foot pursuit ensued, and the suspect was successfully apprehended,” said Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

“The arrest related to a break-in at a business premises on Briardene on June 8 at approximately 07:24. At the time a check was conducted and it was confirmed that the suspect had gained access to the premises by scaling the rear wall and entering the office building through a rear door. An angle grinder and an extension cord were reported stolen,” he said.

The suspect was handed over to Greenwood Park SAPS and charged with business break-in and theft.

Earlier this week, another suspect was arrested after he was found with alleged stolen items in a sack.

Officers discovered a large industrial cutting machine in good condition. Given the value of the item and the inconsistency in the suspect’s story, he was immediately apprehended.

“It is unclear at this stage where the items had been stolen from and we urge any members of the public and business owners that should you have fallen victim to any theft incidents to report the matter to Greenwood Park police station,” Powell said.
