Suspect arrested after Glenashley break-in

It is believed that the man may be linked to several other crimes in Glenashley and surrounding areas. Marshall Security handed over the suspect to Durban North SAPS for further investigation.

A MAN believed to be behind several house break-ins and copper thefts in Glenashley, La Lucia, and surrounding areas was arrested on Monday.

The arrest stems from CCTV footage captured in the early hours of July 13 which were sent to Marshall Security. It shows a suspect breaking into an outbuilding on Burne Crescent, Glenashley, and stealing power tools, copper pipes, and clothing.

Later that day, members of Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team spotted a man matching the suspect’s description walking along Umhlanga Rocks Drive towards Durban North, wearing the same clothing as seen in the footage and carrying a distinctive white bag.

“A search of the suspect’s bag uncovered a drill and sanding machine, both identified as items stolen from the Burne Crescent property. Under questioning, the suspect admitted to the theft and led security personnel to an informal settlement on Old North Coast Road in Avoca, where further stolen items, including power tools, clothing, and a laptop, were recovered,” said Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

Further investigations revealed the suspect might also be linked to an attempted break-in on Inverness Crescent on July 12, which was interrupted by an alarm, as well as a house break-in on Beachway in which a laptop was stolen. Both incidents are under investigation by the SAPS.

Marshall Security said the suspect is also potentially connected to several other house break-ins and copper theft cases in the Glenashley and La Lucia areas.

Durban North SAPS is investigating further.
