Two arrested in connection with Sunningdale hub cap theft case

While there has been no spike in hub cab thefts residents have been urged to report any suspicious activity.

TWO suspects have been arrested in connection with hub cap theft incidents in Sunningdale and Ballito.

On Friday, August 29, the suspects were caught with suspected stolen hub caps at a shopping centre in Ballito.

The vehicle used, a red Renault Kwid, was spotted at the theft incidents in both areas, explained Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

“The suspects were intercepted as they were about to leave the shopping centre in Ballito. Our officers stopped the vehicle and two suspects were immediately apprehended. Two VW hub caps and the original number plates for the vehicle were also recovered inside the vehicle.

“Umhlali SAPS were contacted and arrived shortly thereafter. Both suspects and the recovered items were transported to Umhlali SAPS for further investigation and processing. It is unknown at this stage where the hub caps that were recovered had been stolen from,” he said.

Powell added that while there had not been a spike in the theft of hub caps, it was important for residents to report suspicious activity.

“We urge residents who have hub caps to use cable ties to secure them in place. That is one of the best ways to secure the hub caps. We also urge residents to report suspicious activity and to remain alert,” he said.

While not linked to the incidents in Ballito and Sunningdale, another suspect was arrested last week in the Greenwood Park area after being found in possession of three hub caps.

It was later confirmed that those stolen items were from a property on Rosary Road, said Powell.
