Man assaulted in Avoca hijacking

The victim thankfully walked away unscathed in the incident.

A MAN was physically assaulted during a hijacking on Thursday (August 21) on Paruks Drive in the Avoca area.

Swift Private Security spokesperson Sanveer Sooklall said the search for the vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, is ongoing.

“Three armed suspects accosted the man on Paruks Drive just after 18:00. They forcibly removed him and took the bakkie. During the hijacking, one of the suspects physically assaulted the driver. The suspects arrived in a separate getaway vehicle and fled the scene with both vehicles,” he said.

Sooklall added that while ambulance services arrived on scene, no further medical intervention was required.

This is the third hijacking in the area since July 22, all involving armed gangs.

In the last incident on July 28, four armed suspects hijacked a resident on Mill Road.

The vehicle was later recovered in KwaMashu.

No arrests have been made and Greenwood Park SAPS were on scene.
