Crusaders Running Club donation to help fund green-fingered project

The funds were raised at the recent Beer Mile held at the club’s grounds on Ranleigh Crescent.

IN recent years Enviro Fixers Durban North has championed the environment and the local community by co-ordinating several projects to uplift the area.

The group has initiated clean-ups, removed alien invasive plants, transformed garden beds, added a splash of colour to various substations, walls and bus stations, and has been promoting and planting indigenous.

Their hard work was rewarded last week when the Crusaders Running Club donated a cheque of R3 200 to the environmental organisation.

Crusaders Running Club chairman Mark Johnson said he was delighted to raise funds for such a deserving cause.

“As Crusaders, every fundraising event we have we give a percentage of the funds raised to a charitable organisation. We are delighted to donate to one in our local community. You just have to look around to see the work Enviro Fixers do and they have also been involved in the trails and flower beds here at our own club. We were blown away by the support from our fellow running clubs at the recent Beer Mile, and to be able to give back like this is fantastic,” he said.

His comments were echoed by Helen Koch, a founding member of Enviro Fixers.

“We are thrilled and this is so rewarding. Any donations we receive are necessary because we rely on the support from the community. We can’t do what we do without them. Cash injections like this help us with special projects. Speaking to Mark he mentioned that a few people in the club didn’t know about the work we do and this is also a great way for us to spread awareness. We really appreciate this donation from Crusaders. Durban North feels loved because it is cared for by groups of passionate people. We haven’t earmarked a project to put the funds towards just yet, however, we may look at work around the trails at the club or somewhere within the grounds,” she said.
