Suspect arrested for M41 stabbing, robbery

The knife used in the crime was also recovered by security officers.

A SUSPECT believed to be linked to a series of armed robberies in the vicinity of the M41 pedestrian bridge has been arrested.

On Friday (September 26), at about 18:30, the suspect had robbed and stabbed a pedestrian before fleeing towards Phoenix.

“The victim required immediate medical attention as they had sustained multiple stab wounds to his shoulder and neck, yet still managed to give a detailed description of the suspect,” explained Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

“An accurate description of the suspect was circulated to all responding members. The suspect was then spotted on Stonebridge Drive in Phoenix before being apprehended and handed over to Durban North SAPS,” he said.

A knife used in the crime was found in the suspect’s possession.

“Officers confirmed that the suspect had previously been arrested for similar robberies and stabbings. The victim, who was at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital receiving treatment also positively identified the suspect as the individual who had stabbed and robbed him,” Powell said.

It is unclear if the suspect is also linked to the most recent stabbing and robbery on the M41 which occurred on September 15.

The victim, believed to be a call centre employee, was walking to find transport when he was approached by two suspects armed with knives.

The suspects robbed the victim of an undisclosed amount of valuables and stabbed the victim before fleeing the scene.
