Suspected thief arrested in Greenwood Park

The suspect was identified by CCTV footage at the home he stole from.

A SUSPECT was arrested on Monday afternoon following the theft of several items from a house on Havelock Road.

What is more, the suspect led security officers to the stolen loot at an informal settlement near Parkington Grove.

According to Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell they received an alarm activation just after 14:47 and CCTV footage helped identify the suspect.

“The homeowner reported the suspect had broken into the property earlier that morning, stealing expensive rugs and other undisclosed items. The homeowner provided further details, including video footage confirming the suspect’s identity.

“While conducting area patrols, one of our officers spotted the suspect and detained him while waiting for Greenwood Park SAPS. During questioning, the suspect confessed to selling the stolen goods and led officers to a well-known informal settlement in the area. Working together with the SAPS they managed to locate the buyer and recover some of the stolen property,” he said.

According to Powell, the suspect and the buyer, together with the stolen items, were transported to Greenwood Park Police Station for further investigation and processing.

While the buyer was not charged he was questioned by police.
