Support needed for Diwali hamper drive

The hope is the drive brings joy and relief to underprivileged families in need during Diwali.

EVERY year the Umhlanga Hindu Society (UHS) gives back with its Diwali Hamper Drive to support local families in need.

This initiative is designed to bring joy and relief to underprivileged families in need during Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights.

They have appealed to the community, businesses and well-wishers to support the heartwarming initiative.

“Diwali is a time of giving, sharing, and illuminating lives,” said Puven Akkiah, the chairperson of the Umhlanga Hindu Society. “Through this hamper drive, we aim to bring the spirit of Diwali into the homes of those who need it most. Your contribution will go a long way in lighting up someone’s Diwali.

“The UHS team will co-ordinate the procurement, packing, and distribution of the hampers to ensure they reach the identified families in time for the festive season. Let’s come together as a community to spread the light of Diwali beyond our homes and into the hearts of those who need it most,” he said.

Each hamper is valued at R250 and will include essential grocery items and festive treats to help families.
