Riders gear up for MTB challenge
The event will see riders tackle a 7km lap course completing as many laps as possible in 24 hours.
IN a bid to promote mountain biking (MTB), uMhlanga resident Shaun Peschl, through his company Peschl Sports, has announced the Cycle Lab Peschl Sports 24-Hour MTB Challenge, set to take place from December 6 to 7 at the Shongweni Club in Hillcrest.
The event will see riders tackle a 7km lap course, looping through scenic trails and challenging terrain, with one simple goal of completing as many laps as possible in 24 hours.
Participants can enter as solo riders or form teams of two, four, or six riders, strategising on shift rotations and stamina management to stay in the race around the clock. With one rider from each team required to be on the track at all times, the MTB Challenge focuses equally on mental endurance and resilience, as well as team co-ordination and physical strength.

“The 24-Hour MTB Challenge captures the essence of mountain biking, endurance, spirit, and community,” explained Peschl, founder of Peschl Sports. “This is an experience that brings people together. Friends, families, and fellow riders, all driven by a shared love for the sport. Whether you’re racing to win or simply testing your personal limits, it’s a weekend you’ll never forget.”
He added that riders and supporters can look forward to facilities, including showers, toilets, charging stations, and a dedicated braai area.
Each team’s entry includes a camp site for one tent, with additional tent spots available for R150 on the spectator field, making it a perfect outing for families and friends wanting to soak up the excitement through the night.
The event caters for younger riders, six years and older, on a 4.5km lap.
- The fee is R500 for a solo ride, R950 for a two-rider team, R1 850 for a four-rider team and R2 750 for a six-rider team. Registration and the tent set-up will begin on Friday, December 6, from 08:00 until 11:00. Entries are open via Racepass (www.racepass.com), and spots are limited. Riders are encouraged to register early to secure their place.
