CCTV cameras lead to arrest of theft suspect

The suspect was found in possession of house break-in implements and was handed over to Greenwood Park SAPS.

ONE person was arrested after he was spotted trespassing at a business property on Cassiafield Grove in the Springfield Park area on Monday night (December 29).

The incident occurred just after 18:44.  The suspect was spotted by the Marshall Security CCTV control room as he walked along the boundary fence of the business.

“A description of the suspect was circulated and within minutes officers arrived, spotted the suspect, and successfully apprehended him,” explained Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell. “A search of the suspect’s bag revealed house break-in implements in his possession.”

According to Powell, the suspect could be linked to a theft incident at another premises on Gumtree Road this month.

This was the second arrest made by the company within two days.

On Tuesday (December 30), a suspect was arrested for copper cables theft on Umgeni Road.

In that case it was revealed the suspect was employed at the property to safeguard a site in the area.

“During the interview, the suspect was requested to show the contents of the bag, which revealed copper cables. When questioned about their origin, the suspect was unable to provide a clear or legitimate explanation.

“The suspect provided contact details for his employer, who confirmed that he was unaware that his employee was removing copper cables from the property,” Powell said.
