The driver, and only occupant of one of the vehicles involved in the crash, had to be extricated by the Fire Department.

ONE person has died following a crash involving a light motor vehicle and a truck on the M4 Ruth First Highway between uMhlanga and Sibaya on Monday morning (February 2).

KZN VIP spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said teams found that a light motor vehicle had collided head-on with a truck.

In that incident, involving two vehicles, one of the vehicles rolled, ejecting the passengers.

“The driver of the bakkie, a man in his 40s, had sustained major injuries, and whilst Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise him on the scene, he went into cardiac arrest and despite full resuscitation efforts he passed away on the scene,” said Garrith Jamieson,  ALS Paramedics spokesperson.

A total of 12 other patients were also injured in the crash.
