Durban North school addresses traffic obstruction concerns
The school acknowledged that residents had raised concerns over double parking and obstruction leading to traffic congestion.
NORTHLANDS Girls’ High School has apologised to Durban North residents over traffic congestion at one of the school’s entrance gates on Beachway, during the morning drop off and when school ends.
In a public statement posted on their Facebook page, the school acknowledged that residents had raised concerns over double parking and obstructing the road leading to traffic congestion.
Tarryn Hunter, marketing and PR officer for the school, explained the school has communicated with parents and guardians about the matter.

“The school has reminded them of their responsibility to adhere strictly to all road traffic regulations and to be considerate of the surrounding community. In addition, the school has engaged with the local traffic department to request monitoring and support, as we have observed an increase in non-compliant parking practices,” she said.
The school acknowledged the impact on its neighbours and the broader community.
“We will continue to reinforce expectations with parents, review internal traffic management procedures, and work alongside all the relevant authorities to seek practical sustainable solutions,” she said.
In recent operations across eThekwini, Durban Metro Police warned motorists obstructing the free flow of traffic that they will be fined or have their vehicles towed.
Various operations in Durban North, uMhlanga, the CBD and Florida Road have taken place and form part of ongoing efforts to improve traffic flow, explained the service.

“Motorists are reminded to park responsibly and adhere to traffic regulations to avoid fines and impoundment. Vehicles found illegally parked or causing obstruction are being charged and towed in terms of the relevant traffic by-laws and legislation,” the service said in a statement.
