Suspects purchase alcohol, fast food after theft out of vehicle

THREE suspects were arrested on Wednesday (March 25) in connection with a theft-out-of-motor vehicle incident at a shopping centre in Ballito.

The suspects had stolen a backpack containing several personal items, including the victim’s wallet with bank cards as well as a power bank.

What is more, following the theft, the suspects made purchases at a bottle store in Ballito and a fast food chicken outlet before fleeing.

Marshall Security’s spokesperson Tyron Powell said the suspects were eventually stopped and arrested at the intersection of the M4 uMdloti turn-off and the M27.

After details were circulated of the vehicle involved, the company’s Special Operations Team (SOT) were involved in their apprehension.

“The victim had opened a case at the Umhlali police station and it was reported the suspects were using a white VW Polo. Our SOT members spotted the identified the vehicle travelling southbound on the M4 near La Mercy.

“The suspects were stopped at the intersection of the M4 uMdloti turn-off and all items reported stolen were recovered from the suspects and inside the vehicle. A bag containing jumper cables and car cleaning items, believed to have been stolen from another vehicle, was also found,” he said.

Powell added that empty food packaging and alcohol bottles purchased by the suspects using the stolen card was also found inside the vehicle.

“The suspects, along with the vehicle and all recovered exhibits, were transported to Durban North police station,” he said.
