Motorists arrested for drunk driving make first court appearances

Several of the cases were adjourned until next month with the State saying they were awaiting the completion of blood analysis reports.

SOME of the 67 motorists arrested over this weekend’s roadblocks in Durban North and uMhlanga made their first appearances at the Durban Magistrate’s Court today (April 1).

In all 18 motorists appeared on charges of drunk driving after they were taken to the cells at the Durban North police station.

Several of the cases were adjourned until next month with the State saying they were awaiting the completion of blood analysis reports.

The KZN Department of Transport made waves this weekend, publishing some of the excuses offered up by those who were arrested during the #NenzaniLaEzweni Operation.

MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma said there will be more than 145 multidisciplinary roadblocks and more than 115 speed operations in high accident zones during the Easter period.

“Our message has not changed and is very clear: drink and drive and earn yourself a criminal record.”
