Spreading Easter cheer to Briardene and Malacca Road children
Durban North’s One Egg One Smile campaign aims to spread Easter joy to over 800 children through community donations.
THE Ward 36 committee, in partnership with the Glenhills and Glen Anil Ratepayers Association, has launched an Easter egg drive aimed at bringing joy to more than 800 children in Briardene and the Malacca Road settlement.
The initiative, known as the One Egg One Smile campaign, builds on the success of a smaller drive held last year and seeks to strengthen ties between communities in Durban North.

Organiser Sam Reddy said the project was born out of a desire to foster meaningful connection.
“This started with a simple question — how do we bring our community closer together in a meaningful way?” he said.
“We see these communities every day, but we don’t always engage in a way that builds real connection. Easter felt like the right moment to change that — a time centred around hope, kindness, and giving.”
Reddy said the campaign aimed to reach over 800 children, but its impact extended beyond numbers.
“We want to make sure that every child feels seen and included. If we can create even one moment where a child feels valued and remembered, then we’ve achieved something meaningful,” he said.
Residents and local businesses are being encouraged to support the drive by donating Easter eggs, assisting with collection points, or spreading awareness.
“While some children are celebrating, others may not have the same opportunities or experiences,” he said.
Distribution is set to take place over the Easter weekend, with teams visiting both communities.
The day will include more than just the handing out of Easter eggs, with organisers planning an engaging and celebratory experience for the children.
With the support of the ratepayers’ association, neighbourhood watch groups, organisations and residents, organisers hope the campaign will grow into an annual event.
Donations can be dropped off at Durban North Pharmacy, or WhatsApp 069 830 8989 to make other arrangements.
