According to private security company Marshall Security, its Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from a concerned member of the public shortly after midday, reporting that an individual was lying on the side of Riverside Road.

Armed Response Officers, along with members of the Special Operations Team, were immediately dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, our members located a male who had sustained a gunshot wound and showed no signs of life,” said Tyron Powell, spokesperson for Marshall Security.

He added that the South African Police Service (SAPS) and emergency medical services were contacted and arrived shortly thereafter. Marshall Security officers secured and cordoned off the scene until authorities took over.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear. However, police are investigating whether the incident may have followed an altercation between individuals.
