“Paramedics requested additional resources while working to stabilise the injured. The trapped patient was later extricated using specialised equipment. The exact circumstances leading up to the collision remain unknown at this stage,” Naidoo said.

This was the second serious collision on the M4 on Friday after a head-on collision involving two vehicles on the M4 between uMdloti and La Mercy.

Paramedics found multiple patients trapped in the wreckage.

“A triage and stabilisation process was immediately initiated while additional medical resources were requested to assist on scene. Patients were carefully extricated using specialised equipment and transported to nearby medical facilities for further care,” Naidoo said.
