Durbanites unite in colour to raise funds for CANSA

Participants sprayed their hair and wore ribbons representing the various types of cancer and support for patients.

THE Durban promenade was awash with colour recently as hundreds of people united for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) 5km colour walk.

The event, hosted by Hopelands Cancer Centre, Busamed Gateway Private Hospital and Busamed Hillcrest Private Hospital, saw people from all walks of life raise funds for the association.

The NPO provides education, conducts early detection screenings, and offers care and support to patients, caregivers, and loved ones.

On Saturday, April 11, participants sprayed their hair and wore ribbons representing the various types of cancer and support for patients.

Local resident and sustainability co-ordinator for CANSA Durban, Natasha Brown, explained the significance of the walk which had 442 participants.

“The event was a powerful show of solidarity. I loved seeing all the different colours sending the message we stand united against cancer. We had an overwhelming response from people,” she explained.

“This was our first colour walk ever and I feel it was overwhelmingly positive. Everybody here has been impacted by cancer in some shape and form and they feel they can make a difference supporting events like this.”
