Celebrate Mother’s Day with creative cake decorating, garden art sessions, baking classes and paint-and-sip events across the city.
Durban is set to celebrate Mother’s Day with a variety of creative, hands-on events designed to bring families together while indulging in art, baking and a little pampering.

Decorate your cake and eat it
At Durban’s Northlands Girls’ High School, a “Cake Decorating Party” will take place on Thursday, May 7, from 17:00 to 19:00 in the school gym. Priced at R200 per person, the event invites guests to celebrate moms while learning decorating techniques. The ticket includes a cake, a decorating presentation, as well as a light dinner and drinks. Organisers note that space is limited, with bookings handled through Karri.
Painting in nature
For those looking for a more artistic experience, a “Mother’s Day Art in the Garden” session will be hosted on May 9 from 10:00 to 12:00 in Glen Anil, Durban North. The mommy-and-me painting event costs R450 per mom and child and includes a canvas, all painting materials and a welcome drink. Guests are encouraged to bring along their own picnic basket to enjoy in a relaxed garden setting. Bookings can be made via Lilian on 081 551 7858.
Tea and paint
Meanwhile, creatives can also look forward to a “Mother’s Day Tea and Paint” experience on May 10 at That South African Place in Westown. Starting at 15:00, the session costs R400 per person and includes a canvas, all brushes and tools, as well as a traditional scone with cream and jam and a cup of tea.
