uMdloti paddler triumphs in Hungary
Representing South Africa, Hamish Lovemore finished third in the 5 000m event at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup regatta.
UMDLOTI resident Hamish Lovemore was one of the standout performers at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup regatta in Szeged, Hungary last weekend.
Lovemore won a bronze medal and reached a final in the season-opening regatta.
Representing South Africa, Lovemore finished third in the 5 000m event that wrapped up competition.
He had earlier reached the final in the Olympic-distance 1 000m K1 race where he finished ninth.

The Szeged regatta was the first World Cup to count towards the new ranking system for Los Angeles Olympic Games (LA28) qualification, which means Lovemore picked up valuable points in his quest to return to the Olympic stage in Los Angeles in 2028.
His bronze medal built upon his strong showing at the South African Sprint Championships in March.
In that competition, Lovemore dominated over the three-day championships held on Roodeplaat Dam, and won three of his K1 races, the 1000m, 500m and 5000m.
He then teamed up with Denmark’s Jonathan Dagnaes to win the K2 500m.
Next up for the 26-year-old is the next World Cup in Brandenburg in Germany.
