Protesters gathered in Springfield Park, moving through the business district and requesting employee documentation from local companies.

An estimated 300 protesters have gathered along Peter’s Road in Springfield Park today (about 09:30, Monday, June 22) with numbers continuing to grow as the demonstration moves through the area’s business district.

According to information received from KZN VIP Protection Services, protesters have been approaching businesses and requesting documentation and employment records relating to staff members.

“Reports of protest activity across Springfield Park have been circulating throughout the day,” said Gareth Naidoo, spokesperson for KZN VIP Protection Services.

In response to the developing situation, the security company has deployed specialised teams to the area and increased its presence around key business and industrial sites.

“Members remain on high alert and are actively monitoring the situation to safeguard infrastructure, support affected businesses, and assist in ensuring that the protest remains peaceful and within the confines of the law,” he added.

He encouraged business owners and the public to remain calm, avoid confrontations and report any incidents of intimidation, property damage or other criminal activity to the relevant authorities.

“KZN VIP will continue working alongside law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders as the situation unfolds,” he added.
