Hijacked vehicle recovered in Briardene

While no arrests were made the hijacked vehicle was transported to the Greenwood Park police station for processing and investigation.

LAW enforcement officials have recovered a hijacked vehicle that was abandoned on Stanhope Place in Briardene.

The hijacking, which took place last Wednesday (June 17), involved six armed suspects allegedly impersonating SAPS officials.

According to Marshall Security spokesperson, Tyron Powell, the victim of the hijacking was also kidnapped in the incident and forced to withdraw funds.

“He was travelling to work on Queen Nandi Drive when he was hijacked. The victim was subsequently kidnapped and forced to withdraw approximately R30 000 from his bank account. After withdrawing the funds, the suspects released the victim near a nearby shopping centre and fled. The victim thereafter opened a case at the Greenwood Park police station,” he explained.

According to Powell, a friend of the hijacking victim alerted authorities to the vehicle which was abandoned on Sunday (June 21).

“One of our officers was flagged down by a member of the public who advised that his friend had been hijacked of his white Toyota Yaris on Wednesday last week. The individual stated that he had just driven past and noticed the vehicle parked on Stanhope Place, Briardene.”

No arrests have yet been made but the vehicle was towed to the Greenwood Park police station.

This is the fourth stolen vehicle recovered in the last five days across eThekwini.

Last Thursday, a Toyota RunX which had been reported stolen from the Wentworth area, was recovered at a property in the Ngedleni area near Tongaat.

Authorities also found a second vehicle, a Ford Ranger, on the same property that had been reported stolen in May last year in the Chatsworth area.

On Wednesday a white Peugeot panel van was recovered on Chris Hani Road which had been reported stolen in January this year in the Scottburgh area.

The vehicle was intercepted and brought to a stop at the corner of Chirs Hani Road and Victor Road, Avoca area.
