One arrested, stolen vehicle recovered in uMdloti

The recovered vehicle and the suspect was handed over to the Durban North police for further investigations.

A VEHICLE stolen in Isipingo in 2025 was recovered on North Beach Road, uMdloti, on Sunday morning (July 5) by Marshall Security.

The blue Renault Kwid which had been reported stolen in December last year was spotted in the seaside village.

“We received information regarding the stolen vehicle and it was spotted parked in a public parking area. Our armed response officer approached the vehicle and successfully apprehended the driver without incident,” explained Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

The driver was handed over to Durban North SAPS.

This was one of two breakthrough arrests made in recent days.

On Thursday (July 2), four suspects believed to be linked to a retail theft syndicate operating across the province were arrested on Armstrong Avenue in La Lucia.

The suspects were wanted for a theft incident that occurred on June 27 at a bottle store in Zimbali, Ballito.

According to Powell the same group of suspects had allegedly stolen five bottles of liquor from another bottle store in the Pinetown area.

“At approximately 18:48, while patrolling along Armstrong Avenue, realising they were being followed, the suspects stopped and attempted to flee on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, three suspects were successfully apprehended. A search of the suspects and their vehicle resulted in the recovery of approximately R18 000 worth of suspected stolen clothing,” Powell said.

Further investigations then led members to a flat in the Point area, where a fourth suspect, identified through CCTV footage, was arrested and the liquor stolen earlier that day was recovered.

According to Powell, investigations have also linked the suspects to additional theft cases in uMhlanga, Ballito, Pinetown, and Gauteng, with further investigations continuing.
