Witnesses are urged to come forward following the fatal shooting of a 42-year-old woman in Parkhill last Sunday.

The Greenwood Park Community Policing Forum (CPF) has appealed to anyone who witnessed Sunday’s fatal shooting on Blackburn Road to come forward as police continue investigating the murder of a 42-year-old woman.

Greenwood Park SAPS have opened cases of murder and attempted murder following the shooting on Sunday, July 12. The woman was found inside her vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene. A passing motorcyclist was grazed by a stray bullet and treated for his injuries, while the deceased’s vehicle has been seized for forensic examination.

Greenwood Park CPF Main Forum PRO Michael Bester urged the public who may have seen anything before, during or after the shooting to assist investigators.

“We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have information that could assist the investigation, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward. Even the smallest piece of information could prove vital in helping police establish exactly what happened and bring those responsible to justice,” said Bester.

Emergency services responded to the shooting incident at about 17:45 after multiple gunshots were reported in the area.

Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell previously confirmed that armed response officers found the woman deceased inside her vehicle.

A child who was in the vehicle at the time of the shooting escaped with minor injuries but was left severely traumatised. ALS Paramedics also treated a delivery motorcyclist who was struck by a stray bullet before he was transported to hospital.

Greenwood Park SAPS said the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation and appealed to anyone with information to contact their nearest police station or report information anonymously via Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Anyone with information can also call 031 597 0020.

Bester said community assistance remains crucial in solving violent crime.

“Someone in the community may have seen suspicious activity or have information that investigators need. We encourage residents not to remain silent and to help ensure those responsible are held accountable,” he said.
