LESOTHO’S Neheng Khatala secured her maiden Totalsports Women’s Race victory in Durban on Sunday in a time of 32:06.

She was joined on the podium by Great Britain’s Emma Pallant-Browne and Kenya’s Fridah Ndinda who finished third.

Khatala expressed her delight after winning the highly competitive 10km race.

“I’m so excited to be part of the race today. It’s been a good year for me. The race was great and the route is fast. We tried to push the pace, but unfortunately the wind made it difficult. The ladies were very strong, so we maintained the pace together,” she explained.

“At around the 5km mark, I knew I was going to win the race. I’m very grateful, and I’m also happy for the other ladies. Winning is always on my mind. As an athlete, you always have to aim to win. If it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen, but you need to stay mentally strong and always strive for the win or the best possible position.”

Nikki Crous, the head of marketing at Totalsports, said the Durban race was the perfect way to kick off Women’s Month.

“Durban delivered an exceptional edition of the Totalsports Women’s Race, with remarkable performances from our elite athletes and an electric atmosphere created by thousands of participants.
