Help deliver smiles with toy collection for children of Briardene

The event aims to spread joy to 1200 children from the Briardene Informal Settlement with toy and snack donations and a day of celebration.

WITH the season of giving fast approaching, local residents have called for support for the upcoming Durban North Community Kids Fun Day.

The annual event, now in its third year, aims to spread joy to 1200 children from the Briardene Informal Settlement with toy and snack donations and a day of celebration.

While the event is happening on November 28, the co-founder of the fun day, Sam Reddy, has called on residents, businesses and local groups to rally behind the much-loved event by donating toys and offering their support.

“Every year we make the event bigger and better. For many of the children, this is the first time they have an event just for them. We’ve always received such great support from the North Durban community and this is why we are starting our toy drive a little earlier this year.

“We’d like residents to join or volunteer on the day and we are calling on the community to donate slightly used or new toys for the collection for ages 1 to 12. This event shows what happens when people come together with love and purpose. Every toy donated, every volunteer who shows up, all creates magic for the children who need it most,” he said.

Reddy added they are looking for soft, cuddly and interactive toys, not gun or battery operated toys

The Fun Day will once again take place at the Training and Resources in Early Education (TREE) campus on Krishna Road near the Briardene settlement.
