Metro Police warns of recruitment scam
The scam asks applicants to verify their identities using codes to have their supposed Durban Metro applications considered.
THE Durban Metropolitan Police Service (DMPS) has warned the public about a fraudulent recruitment scam circulating via email.
DMPS spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu said the scam is targeting job seekers and in particular applicants for Constable (Level I) positions.
“It has come to our attention that individuals are receiving emails purporting to originate from the eThekwini Municipality Recruiting Team, requesting applicants to confirm their identities through verification codes to ensure that their applications are considered.
“The DMPS urges members of the public to exercise extreme caution and verify the authenticity of such communications through official municipal recruitment channels,” he said.
Zungu emphasised that recruitment processes must follow official municipal procedures.
“We urge all job seekers to remain vigilant and protect themselves against recruitment fraud.”
