Editor – WE have lived in Harrison Drive, Glen Hills, for over 12 years now and have observed (which we should not be proud off) the degeneration of our road which eventually affects our area and devaluation of our properties.

To start with a resident at the lower end of Harrison Drive has taken the liberty of converting his property to a “truck and plant (tractors etc) depot”.

I wonder whether he/she has permission to do so? I doubt it because it is illegal to do so in a residential area. But maybe political connections lend a blind eye.

There are others who seem unable to afford the upkeep of their boundary walls, verges etc. In the interim our property values continue to devalue as a result of the neglect of others and to the blind eye of the authorities (I’m sure many of whom have connections here).

Sometimes devaluation has nothing to do with the economy. In fact as a consequence of the lower market property values areas such as ours become sought after because of “value for money” purchases.

In lay man’s terms, this should ideally mean “increased value and positive investment”.

However those who have recently invested here can seem to barely make it hence neglect and degeneration. Just look at your boundary walls, driveways etc! You will know who I’m referring to.

Sad and please don’t blame it on apartheid as I am one of you too but I take pride in my property which I work very hard to pay for.
