Comets claim vital bonus point win

The FNB Varsity College Comets put in a clinical second half performance to claim a bonus point victory away from home.

THE FNB Varsity College Comets notched up their third win of the Varsity Shield tournament on Thursday placing them just two points off the top of the standings.

The Comets put in a clinical second half performance to claim an important 28-13 bonus point victory over the FNB UFH Blues at the Davidson Stadium at the University Of Fort Hare.

The Comets were slow to start the match and had to rely on another second half surge to get themselves over the line against a spirited Blues outfit that piled on the pressure in the early stages of the game.

The home side, who had lost all three of their opening games, were blown away by a strong second-half showing as captain AB Mthembu, Chandler Green and Jacques Marais all got on the try sheet.

Marais scored his second try of the evening to ensure the visitors hit the four try threshold.

The Comets are back on the road when they take on FNB CPUT in the Western Cape this week Friday.
