Sea Cow Lake principal makes history through education
As the new principal, Naidoo's focus will also be to improve the school's matric pass rate from 79% to hopefully 100%.
SEA Cow Lake Secondary finally has a new principal after a two-year wait.
It’s a special moment in history for the school which appointed the first female and Indian woman as principal.
Vineshree Naidoo spoke to Northglen News and said she could not be prouder.
“Yes, we’ve made history. After acting as principal for two years, I was finally appointed principal on 24 February. I was on cloud nine,” she said.
Naidoo is no stranger to the community, being born and bred in Kenville. She has taught at the school for 21 years and has close relationships with the learners.

“I’ve watched learners not only grow but progress too. I want to ensure that our learners are guided into reaching their full potential and that they make something of their lives,” she added.
Naidoo obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from UKZN and PGCE from Unisa.
She taught at Bechet High School in 2003 before coming to Sea Cow Lake Secondary in 2004.
She teaches consumer studies and misses being in the classroom full-time with learners as the role of principal is an administrative one.
Some of Naidoo’s plans to improve the school have already been set in motion. She has obtained a sponsorship from Gorimas for a breakfast programme for learners. Currently the learners receive lunch.
“There are many challenges at the school due to budget constraints. Water tanks were donated by AlcoNCP to alleviate the problem of early closure and learners missing out on teaching and learning. If learners have food in their tummies and a constant supply of water, it will make a positive difference in their educational experience,” she said.
Naidoo also plans on building a study hall which can double as a dining area for learners to study or eat.
“Some learners come to school early and leave late. They can sit in the hall and study or complete homework in the afternoons. On hot days, the hall can be used for learners to eat,” added Naidoo.
She thanked the staff and school governing body for their support.
“The staff are like family and the school governing body have been supportive all the way. I must also thank my family who are more than supportive. As an educator there are many hours and weekends that we sacrifice from our personal lives to prepare for lessons and tutor our learners. Without my supportive family, and God, I would not be able to do this,” she said.
