IDOLS season 8 winner, Clash of the Choirs 2014 Master and South Africa’s favourite PK (Pastor’s kid), Khaya Mthethwa is set to record his first live DVD on Friday, 4 December 2015 at The Durban Christian Centre (Jesus Dome) in his hometown, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.We asked the former Umlazi resident, who now lives in Durban North, a few questions and found out that the Move hitmaker is not shy at all. What things don’t you like doing? Name two.
I don’t like sitting in traffic it seriously make me feel unproductive and I also don’t like being away from my siblings. they are my valuable treasure.
Tell us about a time when things didn’t go the way you wanted?
When I tried to record my second album and I was battling to get sponsors for a live DVD recording I decided to do a studio version which ended up selling more the 100k albums.
What do you think about when you are alone in your car?
I plan most of my life when I’m driving or my hands free is always on and I am on a call.
What’s your strongest memory of your childhood?
At eight years old, playing with my dad’s car and I pressed down the hand break to my surprise the car was driving down the hill. Shoooo there has never been another like that day.
What do you dislike about South Africa?
I dislike the racial tension that still exists in our country – its so unnecessary as we all have a story to tell to the world equally relevant. What makes you angry? Disrespectful people.
Besides your job, what are you most passionate about?
Aircrafts and getting my pilot license , there is something amazing about being on air and seeing the world from a distance I am always in awe.
Name one misconception you think people have about you?
That I’m shy, get to know me and ha ha ha, you will be surprised.
Some advice to people who want to follow your path – what are three things you should never do in this business?
1. Never think you know it all. 2. Always be prepared. 3. Never forget what got you where you are. What do you envision yourself doing when you turn 80? Chilling on a beach somewhere with my wife and grand kids running around, I love family and the idea one day of having one of my own is exciting.
