Durban North charity thrift shop helps those in need

The store, based at Durban North Community Church on Mackeurtan Avenue, is all about thrifting with purpose.

THE Hidden Treasure thrift store which opened its doors in March is calling on the community to support them in whatever way they can.

The store, based at Durban North Community Church on Mackeurtan Avenue, is all about thrifting
with purpose.

That’s how Cait Vila Pouca sums it up.

“We are part of a national franchise of thrift shops with the aim of giving back to those in need. We see ourselves as having a greater purpose. We turn donated clothing, homeware, and everyday items into something bigger. We offer a curated selection of quality, often upmarket pieces at affordable prices, making thrifting both accessible and exciting,” she said.

Proceeds from every sale go towards supporting organisations like Sinakekele, Canaan Crèche, and the Welcome Church Outreach Center.

“What’s been really special is seeing how the community is responding so far. It’s not just shopping, but thrifting with intention, donating, and becoming part of something meaningful. The great thing is anyone can donate or purchase.

“We have everything from crockery to clothing to books to children’s items. It has been such a blessing being introduced to the Durban North community. The people who come through these doors are so willing to donate and every little thing helps here,” she said.
