One killed, several injured in N2 crash

A man believed to be in his 30s sustained fatal injuries in the crash on the N2 just before the Queen Nandi Drive off-ramp.

ONE person has been killed and several others injured after a multiple vehicle crash on the N2 on Tuesday night (June 16).

The crash occurred in the northbound lane just before the Queen Nandi Drive off-ramp at around 21:00.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the deceased driver was found trapped in the wreckage.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find chaos. Three vehicles were involved, leaving multiple patients with various injuries. One of the drivers involved was found trapped in the wreckage. Paramedics assessed the man believed to be in his 30s and found unfortunately that he had sustained fatal injuries.

“Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene. The eThekweni Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to cut the man free. Approximately five patients were treated on scene before being transported to various Durban Hospitals,” he said.

This was one of two fatal crashes in eThekwini on Tuesday night – two people were killed in a horrific head-on collision on the M1 Higginson Highway (before Havenside) just before 23:00.
