The trial is now expected to begin tomorrow (Tuesday).

The brothers are accused of the murder of Mount Edgecombe businessman Shailen Singh, who was shot dead on Meridian Drive in uMhlanga in December 2024.

Ferrel Govender, a former security company boss, faces multiple charges, including murder, while his brother Darren faces a murder charge.

The State alleges that Singh’s murder was linked to claims that he was having an affair with Ferrel Govender’s girlfriend.

Ferrel has remained in custody, while Darren is out on bail.

The case has attracted significant attention since Singh was killed in broad daylight on Meridian Drive.

The matter has faced a number of delays as the State and defence dealt with outstanding pre-trial issues.

With the defence indicating that it was not ready to proceed today, proceedings are expected to resume tomorrow (Tuesday), when the trial is scheduled to get underway at the Durban High Court.
